Manual lubrication is typically performed infrequently, resulting in uneven amounts of lubricant being applied. This can lead to over-lubrication which can damage seals and increase bearing temperatures by "grease churn."
It is important for maintenance professionals to realise that many lubrication systems have long supply lines, precise metering valves, fittings and numerous connections that can malfunction due to vibration, airentrainment and other environmental impacts. Thus, careful monitoring and maintaining of the system on a consistent basis is critical.
